Call Blocking

How does call blocking work?

WhatSpam relies on its extensive list of identified and known spammers and other malicious phone numbers to keep you protected. The database is constantly updated and if you've upgraded to WhatSpam Pro then that database is updated for you automatically as well. WhatSpam Free users can update the database for themselves manually whenever a new update is available.

As a WhatSpam user, you also have access to additional tools to control who and for what can contact you: creating Block and Allow lists, Flagging potential spam and configuring your own rules in Advanced Settings.

Still received a call from an unwanted number?

Telemarketers, scammers and spammers use new numbers all the time. We are constantly updating our list of known numbers used for these types of calls. We highly recommend that if a spam or scam call comes through despite WhatSpam you either Block or at least Flag the number. This way calls from that number will no longer come through for you, and we will receive information about the suspected spammer and can add them to the database.

We have also observed that the more WhatSpam is identifying and labelling spam calls, messages and emails the more our users may now be aware of spam calls that were previously ignored or went unnoticed.

Didn't receive a call you were expecting?

By default WhatSpam blocks only calls from numbers found in its database. Check your Advanced Settings to make sure none of the rules you might've set for yourself are not causing this number to be blocked for you. If the issue persists, please get in touch with us and help us investigate.

If you believe a number is mistakenly listed in the database please let us know by contacting WhatSpam Support. You can also already Allow it for yourself on your phone to make sure next time the call comes through.

WhatSpam is designed to protect users from unwanted contacts, but sometimes it may block legitimate numbers. We continue to review and reassess the blocked numbers and appreciate your help if you see we made a mistake.
