Understanding One-Time Passwords (OTP) and Troubleshooting Tips

When you choose to sign up and later sign in with a phone number, WhatSpam will send you a One-Time Password (OTP) to verify your identity. This unique code enhances the security of your account by ensuring that only you can access it.

How OTP Works

An OTP is a unique code sent to your registered mobile phone number. You’ll need to enter this code within a specific time frame to complete the verification process during login or registration.

Troubleshooting: Not Receiving OTP Messages

If you’re not receiving OTP text messages, it could be due to several factors. Please check the following potential issues:

1. Spam Folder

Check your spam folder: The OTP message might have been automatically moved to your text message spam folder. Please verify if the message is there.

2. Notification Settings

Allow messages: When the first OTP text message arrives, your phone might prompt you to allow messages from our service. If you selected “No,” future OTP messages may be blocked. Review your notification settings to ensure messages from us are allowed.

3. Messaging Features

Enable chat features: Ensure that the chat feature or your default messaging service is enabled. Disabling these can interfere with receiving text messages.

4. Correct Phone Number

Verify your number: Make sure that the OTP is being sent to the correct mobile phone number associated with your account.

5. Network Connection

Check connectivity: Ensure your phone is connected to a mobile network with a strong signal. Poor connectivity can delay or prevent message delivery.

6. Software Updates

Update your device: Ensure that your device’s operating system and messaging app are up to date. Outdated software can cause issues with receiving messages.

7. VPN or Firewall Settings

Disable VPN temporarily: If you’re using a VPN or have firewall settings enabled, they might block the OTP message. Try disabling them temporarily to receive the code.

Additional Tips

Give it a bit more time: It may take up to 30 seconds for the OTP code to arrive. Please wait before requesting a new code.

Resend the Code: If the code doesn’t arrive, you can resend it from the same screen where you would input the code.
